Our Life Lately Update: Step One – Surgery

I would love to start out this post by thanking everyone who read my last post regarding the news Daniel & I received (If you missed it, click here to read the post) & sending prayers our way. I truly was not expecting the response we got from everyone. Thousands of people read our post in just a few days and since then, we have gotten countless emails, Facebook messages, calls & text from people all over the country letting us know that they are praying for us. How awesome is that!? It’s comforting knowing that we aren’t alone in this. Our family, friends & people we don’t even know are rooting & praying for Daniel & we are so thankful for that.

So, here’s the latest scoop on where we are right now: We met with the oncologist (Dr.Gunuganti) on Monday. After talking with him, we feel so much better knowing what the plan is…the fact that we are not in the dark about everything like we had been the week before felt somewhat relieving. This past Tuesday (July 14th) Daniel went into surgery to have the mass taken out of his testicle. We met the most amazing doctor who has been with us throughout this whole process – Dr.Best (as I mentioned in the first post). He’s an older gentleman who has been in practice for over 30 years. But the most amazing part about him? He prayed with us. More than once. After we initially heard Daniels diagnosis in his office last week, he asked if he could pray with us before we left. Then again, Dr.Best prayed with us before Daniel went into surgery on Tuesday. We felt like God has truly led us to an amazing doctor & we are so thankful for that.

So, Daniels surgery went well. We had a ton of people come & support Daniel in the hospital. We were all his sideline cheerleaders and couldn’t wait for him to be out of a successful surgery. They even finished the surgery about 20 minutes early! It was so adorable – the first thing Daniel asked me when he got into recovery was “Can I have my wedding ring back so I can put it on?”…LOL..and of course…”Can we get some food?”. The past few days, Daniel has been taking it super easy, but his spirits are very high!

This morning (7/17), we got up early to head to the Cancer Center for him to get his PET scan. A PET scan helps indicate a starting point before Daniel has to start his chemo treatments by examining his whole body & showing exactly where the cancer is & etc. This scan particularly was kind of crazy because afterwards, I’m not able to touch, kiss, hug or get near Daniel since he will be giving off radiation from the scan. That will subside by later tonight…and you better believe, I will be giving Daniel the biggest hug he’s ever gotten!!! 🙂 We will have the results from the PET scan next Wednesday, as well as, the results from the biopsy of the mass they removed in surgery. Depending on all of those results, we may or may not be heading down to Houston to MD Anderson as they specialize in cancer treatment & care.

Again, we can’t thank you enough for all of the sweet words & prayers being sent our way. It makes this dark & scary time seem a little lighter for a moment. We are staying POSITIVE, happy & confident that Daniel will beat this with flying colors!!!! 🙂 We love you guys & will update you next week when we get more information! Until then, we will be taking it easy and watching our favorite movies & all of that jazz! xoxo, Chandy & Danny

UPDATE: There was a Go Fund Me account that was started for us yesterday afternoon. I see those ALL of the time and never expected that we would be in a situation where one would ever be made for Daniel & I. I am truly FLOORED and we are so thankful for the outpouring of support. Of course during this time, Daniel is not able to work or bring home a paycheck through the duration of all of this, so for people to want to support us, oh my goodness, it is such a blessing – there are just no words for it all. If for some reason you feel it in your heart to donate, I have posted the link below. There is literally nothing too small. If you can’t donate, we just ask for your prayers. They are really getting us through you guys.
