Get To Know Me:
I don’t think I’ve ever done a “Get To Know Me” post before! So, why not start now, right?
This coming up year in 2015 – I am working on getting to know my clients & followers of my work better and also, letting them get to know me better as well. Building relationships with the people I will be working so closely with & those who see my work on an everyday basis is SO important to me…and I think I’m REALLY starting to realize that after my first year full of wedding photography is coming to a close.
I think by letting others get to know me a little more & vice versa…we can all relate to each other much more. Which in turn – makes all involved leave with a better experience. I’m not just a machine who is posting photos on some website. This is my passion, my livelyhood, my business that I put my heart into…there’s a real person back here…HI!! 🙂 I’m not a robot and I feel like sometimes, it can feel like that when your reading posts through a computer screen! It’s just so….impersonal. Yannow?
I have been pretty hesitant on whether or not I should keep my website/blog strictly business or shed light into who I really am as a person, a wife, a photographer, a sister, a girl who’s still obsessed with hot pink & glitter… and well, the latter has won! I’m a person who has great days and a few not-so-great days, who deals with life just the way many of you do. I have the same uphill struggles as other blooming photographers in the industry and I was also once just a girl starting out and working my tooshie off to make this dream of mine a profession. There are many things I want to share with you all! But – I will pace myself and not bombard you with all of my posts all at once :p I was also a bride myself! My hubby Daniel & I just celebrated our 1 year anniversary this past Sunday (Nov 9th). Ahhh – pinch me! I can’t believe it’s already been a year. I learned so many things from being a bride myself that I have taken and used in my business since experiencing on my OWN wedding day. It’s so cool to truly understand what brides want! That’s for a different post though that is coming 🙂
So, I thought it would be fun to start out this series with a “Get To Know Me” questionnarie! I send out questionnaires to all of my brides, so I thought, I could do something along those same lines! Of course, I ask my brides all about their wedding day, but these questions are light-hearted and will give you a little insight on how big of a dork I truly am 🙂 I just pulled this straight off a website – I encourage all of my fellow small-business owners to do this too! 🙂
***DISCLAIMER*** You cannot judge me after reading the answers to this survey!
1. What movie deserves a sequel? PEARL HARBOR!! My favorite movie of all time!
2. What’s your favorite childhood memory? Spending the summers down in the valley with my grandma & grandpa! That was the life!!!
3. What is your personal style in your home? I like light! I like white! (however, I’m totally regretting the white chairs we chose for our dining room table…terrible idea, but the thought was cool at first lol) I like studded & tufted furniture…and I especially like comfy throw blankets that I can cozy up to when I’m editing a session on my laptop 🙂
4. What is your favorite kind of cereal? Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Oh my gah. No comparison.
5. What is one thing you always wanted as a kid, but never got? – Lots of things! lol My sisters & I grew up having to share almost everything! (We’re triplets – so money was tight a lot of the times) But it made us that much closer & we learned how to share. We’re also BFF’s – so it worked out perfectly!
6. What’s one big thing that makes you laugh looking back on? hahahah – My BONGO platform shoes (the ones like the Spice Girls wore) I thought I was soooo cool with those badboys! —–>
7. How did you get into photography? My grandpa had a Canon & would always let me play with it & take pictures! Then, my grandma & grandpa bought me my own Fuji camera! (You know – the kind that you wind up to take the next picture LOL!)…I carried that thing with me everywhere!! I’ve loved pictures since I was a little girl, but it wasn’t until 2011 when I bought my 1st nice camera…it was just sitting on the shelf for whole year while I was in college! Once I picked it up in 2012, I fell in love with the art and never put it down 🙂
8. What is your favorite camera accessory? My Holdfast strap! I don’t know how I ever shot without it!
9. If you could project yourself into the past, were would you go? Probably to my grandma’s childhood! All of the stories she’s told me makes me wish I grew up in her era! So peaceful, so safe, & they grew all of their own food on their farm & did stuff like killed chickens daily to eat them for dinner. You know, that kind of stuff.
10. What is your favorite place to shoot? I’m a sucker for something simple & organic. A pretty field at sunset does the trick!
11. What makes you really sleepy? Reading. I wish that wasn’t the case 🙁
12. What do people do too much of today? Use technology! I must admit, I have a love/hate relationship with it!
13. What is the most inspiring movie you have ever seen? Seven Pounds. I.Cry.Every.Time.
14. How do you like to relax? – Birds of Paradise candles lit all over the house – My fav!!
15. To what would you like to devote more time? Reading my Bible!
16. If you could buy one object to complete your home, what would it be? A dresser for our bedroom! We have totally not gotten around to that yet…
17. What was your favorite childhood game? Making mud pies or playing Power Rangers with my sissy’s!
18. What language would you like to master? French…so romantic.
19. If you could photograph anyone in the world, who would it be? Oh, wow…I really have to think about this one! I would say my family! My grandma, sisters, & husband especially. They mean the world to me & photographs are what last a lifetime & beyond. I always want to remember the ones I love during special times in our lives together…or just the little random moments too. Those are the photos that will bring you back to a certain point in time. And those are the photos I will be showing our grandchildren!! Like “This is the time grandpa and I were in New York City!” or “this was at your great great grandma’s 80th birthday party!” No one matters to me more than them, so why not shoot someone I love with all of my heart! 🙂
20. If you had one tip for future photographers, what would it be? Be yourself!!! Shoot what you love! Edit how you want to edit. I was stuck in a rut about 6-7 months ago. I was still trying to find my style & edit that I loved. Yet EVERYONE seemed to be editing with the matted, muted and dark edit. I felt like – well, that’s the “in” thing to do, so I guess I will try that. NOPE! Did not work for me. It wasn’t ME. I like light & colorful photos that show joy & love. Yet, I was trying to change what I loved just because I was a new-ish photographer on the scene and that was the “in” thing to do. Well, I thought…what am I doing?? This isn’t me. So, I worked really hard at trying to find my style (It’s a lot harder than you may think! lol) & find a consistency and stick with it. I think I found it 🙂 *Disclaimer* as an artist, that’s always open to change. But I’m at a happy place where I’m happy with my work however, I’m always looking for new ways to improve & perfect my practice as a photographer.
The Endddd! 🙂
Does anyone have questions they’d like to add? I challenge all of my photog friends to take this survey as well. Have a great day everyone!
