Over the past few months, my adoration with Joanna & Chip Gaines from the show Fixer Upper has become increasingly larger! I may be partial because they are only a few hours away from where Daniel & I live (they are in Waco) & I daydream about the day that Daniel & I can have them find us a fixer upper & fix it up for us! 🙂 Gosh, I just love everything about Joanna’s style! Farmhouse Chic is what she likes to call it…and if there could ever be a home decor queen, I would willingly oblige to give her that title! She incorporates a lot of white, destressed wood, & vintage anything into her remakes & interior design. Anywho, I have been nagging asking sweetly for Daniel & I to start doing some DIY projects after seeing the awesome things Joanna can remake…& he has kindly obliged! This was our 2nd project together. Our first project was our remake of an old armoire …and since that turned out great, we decided to keep going! lol Here is our most recent addition to our living room – a custom made coffee table! And guess what – it only cost us about $30!! 🙂 We found a ton of old wood pallets and decided to create something cool from them. I just love it so so so much! Daniel is such a craftsman and can basically build anything. Since we’ve had a few days off together the past couple of weeks…we have been working on it a few hours here & there…and last night, we put the finishing touches on it. We still have to get shoe mould to line the sides of the table…and I’m debating on putting a semi-gloss sealant on top – hmm not sure because I really like the natural look without it…but we shall see. I still have to get a few nick-nacks to put on the table top too! Here’s how the table looks right now (almost) finished & read about how we did it! 🙂
Here’s how we started the project! We came across a bunch of old pallets that someone was getting rid of! This reminds me of the quote “One mans trash is another mans treasure!” because it is so true – we were so excited to find this “trash”!
We then had to pry all of the boards off of the pallets…this was NOT easy! It took a good few hours just to get all of the boards off pulled off of the pallets! You have to be careful when doing this because the boards tend to split when you pull them off…
Next, Daniel cut all of the boards to size!
In his element…happy as a clam! haha
Then, we took the cut pieces and laid them down to form our pattern!
Oh, hey guys! Charlie & Maggie were watching us the whole time wondering what in the world we were doing. Okay…back to your regular scheduled program…
Next, we glued down all of the pieces with wood glue and also nailed the pieces down with a nail finished…(except I totally forgot to take pictures of that…probably because I was so excited we were almost finished with it) ….and VOILA! It’s completed!!! 🙂
