Okay, so – I’ll admit…I was feeling a little down yesterday. Why so you may ask? Well, it probably sounds SO silly to everyone else – but to me – it was kind of a big deal…for maybe like an hour or so out of my day and then I was over it. I’ll tell you why…
After I worked like a mad woman to get Friday’s wedding edited for yesterdays “Wedding Wednesday” post to showcase Kelsey & Josh’s wedding day from this past Friday…I was so disappointed! I’ll tell you why. I loved working with this sweet couple & was even excited to get home and edit the photos! (which sometimes I just loathe & despise having to edit & occasionally I have to FORCE myself to do it with a smile on my face haha – it’s probably the least exciting part of our jobs as photographers and unfortunately, it takes up the most time by far!) After spending a sweet weekend with Daniel for Valentine’s Day – I dove right into the culling & editing process of the wedding Monday evening. In total – culling & editing & uploading all of the photos to our clients gallery can take anywhere from ohhhhh…I’d say 10-20 hours spent in post-processing. (If you’re a fellow photographer — PLEASE tell me I’m not alone on that one LOL) I was meaning to time myself as I edited Kelsey & Josh’s wedding day so I could really have an accurate time on how long it really takes me! I will let you guys know after this weekends wedding because I am so curious myself…I can’t even believe that I’ve never timed myself to see how long it really takes me!
Well, anyways – getting back to my point here…after I was pumped to share the wedding and finally hit “Publish” on the blog after reviewing it a million times and shared the links & pictures to our social media…I couldn’t help but be soooo disappointed! After working so hard on this wedding to get it finished fast & create my best content and putting our hearts & souls into every aspect of it (okay, this sentence is starting to sound really dramatic – but it really is so true) and then sharing it with the world to see (on our Facebook & Instagram page) only to see that no one is even seeing it due to the algorithms on Facebook! Ahhh -that was just really defeating to me…and made me feel like doing all of this seemed like a lost cause. Like really…does anyone even really care that I’m blogging our weddings or sharing them to social media? Do they take the time to look at them? Maybe…maybe not. But by the looks of it – Facebook isn’t showing anything that we post on our business page to ANYONE. So, even if we do have people who love perusing through the blog…they won’t even know that a new blog has been published because they never even have the chance of seeing it on our social media accounts. The photos that we shared had an overall total reach of 15. FIFTEEN! And we have over 4,500 fans on our Facebook page 🙁
Facebook has been a HUGE part of helping our business grow over the past 3 (almost 4) years and now that Facebook has changed DRASTICALLY & is making you pay big bucks to boost your posts just so the people who “LIKE” your page will have a chance of seeing your stuff…it just seems unfair & downright plain sucky.
After venting to Daniel and rationalizing with myself that I needed to get rid of this gnarly attitude over something so silly…because let’s face it…there are bigger fish to fry in this world than Facebooks “reach”…I got to thinking…I am being such a goof right now! At the end of the day, we definitely don’t shoot weddings and put our hearts & souls into it just for “Facebook” to bring us validation on our posts. We do it for our CLIENTS & our clients alone! Yeah, it would be pretty stinkin’ cool if Facebook was how it used to be years ago…but unfortunately, it’s not and we have to roll with the sucky punches changes and try to find the thing that works best for us…which has been relying solely on word-of-mouth referrals – and that in our book is the best darn compliment we could ever receive!
We will keep striving to serve our clients to the best of our abilities and will forever do so! We also want those of you who love to see our work know when we post something new!
